SOME INFO ON THE THYROID
Your thyroid gland produces hormones that control how quickly the body uses energy, makes proteins, & controls how sensitive your body is to other hormones. Our practice specializes in the diagnosis & treatment of thyroid disorders, including thyroid cancer, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, thyroid nodules, & goiters. We have the advanced capability to perform extensive diagnostic testing including biopsies, ultrasonography, & will soon offer radioactive iodine uptake studies in our office.
Thyroid Nodules
Many times thyroid nodules present no symptoms. However, weight loss, nervousness, neck swelling & difficulty swallowing could indicate the presence of nodules
Hypothyroidism (Underactive Thyroid)
Symptoms may include: Fatigue, depression or mood swings, irritability, marked weight gain, hair loss, dry skin, brittle nails, constipation, irregular menstrual cycles, loss of appetite, poor concentration, feeling cold.
Hyperthyroidism (Overactive Thyroid)
Symptoms may include: Nervousness or anxiety, irritability, increased perspiration, heart racing, hand tremors, difficulty sleeping, thinning of the skin, fine brittle hair, & muscle weakness—especially in the upper arms & thighs, weight loss, & less frequent menstrual cycles.
